CETH (Centre for Employability Through the Humanities)

Who are we?

CETH builds on the University of Central Lancashire's experience of developing employability in humanities students through active learning in specially developed learning spaces and off-campus work experience, through and programme of accredition.

What kind of activities are we involved in?

Employability is cultivated at CETH alongside and within the theoretical and academic content of traditional programmes to enhance and extend the teaching and learning of humanities disciplines in the UK. Student study modules based in purpose-designed Realistic Work Environments for the Humanities and cultural industries, including an exhibition space, a theatre and a media/publishing house, enabling practical experience within the curriculum.

The publishing house

For example, students taking the CETH module 'Insights into Publishing' will produce an edited anthology of creative writing. In the last academic year, students successfully managed, budgeted and published Taste, an anthology of poetry and recipes, which includes contributions from students, staff, established writers and members of the local writing community.

Post-degree support is also offered, through an incubator unit for knowledge exchange in the humanities for recent graduates starting out in business, providing tutoring and mentoring support, bursaries, reception and administrative and ICT support.

How are we working with the English community?

The CETH is research active, sharing best practice with the Higher Education community through working with the HE Academy, Subject Centres and CETLs, carefully monitoring the latest relevant develoments and consistently evaluating current practices.

Who are the key contacts?
