Employability & Enterprise

High achieving graduates

Deborah Leary OBE

Deborah is the CEO of Forensic Pathways Ltd

Deborah graduated from the University of Central England (now Birmingham City University) in 1998 with a BA (Hons) English Language and Literature.

Deb is an award winning inventor and entrepreneur who in record time has turned Forensic Pathways Ltd of which she is the founder and CEO into an international company.

Whilst working as a Training Manager for 9 years, Deb took a degree in English Language and Literature and was due to start a new job as a lecturer at a college teaching Business Admin/English.  Between jobs she attended a forensic conference in Toronto with her policeman husband and listening to a conversation between UK/Canadian Police identified a potential gap for forensic stepping plates: clear, low level platforms that are placed through a crime scene in order that an investigator can walk through the scene and work within it without contaminating the evidence. From this initial idea Forensic Pathways was formed.

She has extensive experience in business building and product development and is an avid supporter of innovation – both by individuals and within organisations. She speaks at innovation and entrepreneur events worldwide and has received numerous awards for entrepreneurship.

Voted as one of Britain’s Top 100 Women Entrepreneurs by Real Business Magazine in 2009, Deb  is considered to be one of the most motivational and entrepreneurial women of the time. She is also involved in a number of other organizations, including being Vice President of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs and Board Member of the Young Vic Theatre Company.

In recognition for her commitment to entrepreneurship Deborah was awarded an O.B.E. in 2008.  Other awards have included FCEM International Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2007/8, European Woman of Achievement 2006 and British Female Inventor of the Year 2005.
