Assessment & the Expanded Text Project

Introduction

The English Subject Centre in association with the Assessment & The Expanded Text Consortium and the University of Northumbia is pleased to introduce a series of assessment resources which were produced under the aegis of the Assessment & the Expanded Text project. The project was resourced by the HEFCE Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) and ran from 1996-2000.

The Assessment & the Expanded Text Consortium was directed by the English division at the University of Northumbria. The project involved collaboration with colleagues who teach English courses at Sheffield Hallam University, Staffordshire University and the University of East Anglia. The stated aim was to identify, develop and disseminate good assessment practices in English at undergraduate level.

The project team produced four case studies which relate to productive assessment practices for traditional and newer areas of the curriculum in English. The project also generated a wide-ranging collection of examples of interesting and productive current practice in English from across the Higher Education sector.
