Why Study English?
This website and postcard, both produced by the English Subject Centre, encourage young people to study English at degree level. They highlight the employment prospects following an English degree, as well as the personal satisfaction, quality of teaching and range of learning opportunities available. They do not promote any particular programmes or institutions, but focus on the discipline as a whole. Why Study English? is a response to the increasing level of concern being expressed by potential students, and their parents, about the long-term prospects for those graduating in non-vocational subjects.
The postcard is supplied free of charge to secondary schools, colleges, careers services and university English departments on request. It encourages potential students to visit the website for more information. Many university departments have distributed the leaflet at open days.
If you would like to receive some copies of the postcard, please email esc@rhul.ac.uk saying how many you would like. Otherwise, feel free to download a copy or use the text in your own documents.
