Assessment Projects

Learning on the Language-Literature Border: Ways of integrating language and literature within final year modules (Central Lancashire)
The primary purpose of this project was examine a variety of methods for integrating language and literature within final year modules. A secondary purpose was to evaluate assessment methods that enable final year undergraduates undertaking a Language and Literature programme to reflect on their educational and intellectual experiences of both subjects and to consider their subject, generic and employability skills in a meaningful way.

The project is investigating creative and innovative approaches to the support and assessment of student learning, by the use of the visual image.

Creating and Assessing Discussion Forums in English Studies (Wolverhampton)
This project aimed to investigate best practice for design and assessment strategies of VLE discussion forums in English studies. It has resulted in the development of a Good Practice Guide to design, moderation and assessment of discussion boards within English Literature, Language and Creative Writing contexts.

Teaching and Assessing Writing Skills (Glasgow)
This project developed a package for web-based teaching and assessment of basic writing skills, designed to be part of a blended learning programme relevant to and adaptable by any UK HE English department.

Teaching metrics using EVS (Electronic Voting System) handsets (Glasgow)
This project was a pilot scheme for developing possible uses of electronic voting system (EVS) handsets in English Literature lectures. The pilot used the handsets to teach metrical analysis of poetry.

Learning by Producing Student journals (Bath Spa)
This project aimed to facilitate the transfer of experience, skills and knowledge that students acquire through the production of a student journal as part of their degree programme.

This project looked at the range and extent of the discourses which supplement Creative Writing in Higher Education and evaluated the functions of such discourses in terms of pedagogy and level.

This project examines the use, content and assessment of Reading Dossiers as part of an English Course and will result in guidelines for best practice in this area.

Assessment and the Expanded Text Project (Northumbria)
This major HEFCE funded project investigated a range of assessment types and produced a wealth of reports and materials. The English Subject Centre is hosting the archive of this project courtesy of Northumbria university.
