Funding opportunities home

Ongoing opportunities funded by the English Subject Centre

Events

We can support teaching or learning-related events organised by English departments. These may be traditional workshops with invited speakers, ‘round-table’ seminars, regional events or just opportunities for colleagues within a department to come together to discuss an issue. For more details see our Events pages.

Case Studies

The Subject Centre will pay £150 in book tokens or high-street vouchers for 1,500-word 'case studies' describing innovative work by HE English teachers. Details are on the Case Studies page.

Commissioned Reports

The Subject Centre periodically commissions reports on important issues related to teaching and learning in English Studies. We do not currently have any opportunities in this area.

Teaching Sessions at Research Conferences

The Subject Centre can pay the expenses of up to two speakers at teaching-related sessions within Research conferences (up to a maximum of £200 per person). Claims must be supported by appropriate documentation. It is a condition of the funding that a report of between 300 and 500 words be produced for the Subject Centre website. To find out if your session is eligible for this support, contact Jonathan Gibson.

Student Societies

The Subject Centre has provided several departments with small amounts of money to help start up English-related student societies and social activities. This funding opportunity is currently closed. More funding may be available in the future. To view terms and conditions visit our Student Societies funding page.
