Propose an Event

Introduction

The English Subject Centre is pleased to support teaching or learning-related events organised by departments. As a general rule, we expect events we support to involve at least 10 persons. We will consider any format or topic, so feel free to be imaginative. 'Designing an Event' gives some ideas for appropriate formats for pedagogical events. There are also notes 'How we can help' which give an outline of what the Subject Centre can do to support your event.

How to Propose an Event

If you have an idea for an event, please put it into the template below. You can submit as many proposals as you wish. (If you would simply like to enquire about support for a teaching strand within a research conference, this should be done by emailing jonathan.gibson@rhul.ac.uk .) The template asks you to indicate whether you are offering to help devise the programme for the event, and perhaps host it, with financial and administrative support from us (see 'How we can help'); or whether you are simply recommending that the Subject Centre organise an event.

What will Happen to my Event Proposal?

Your proposal will remain visible on our website until March or October (whichever is the sooner) when we will gather all the proposals for consideration.  Proposals will be assessed in terms of their likely value and interest to the academic community, and also in terms of their fit with our event programme as a whole.

We will contact all the event proposers to let them know whether or not we can support their idea.  Proposals selected in March will usually be scheduled for January-April the following year; proposals selected in October will be scheduled for September-December the following year.  We find that this is amount of time is needed to plan an event properly, but if there is a reason for running the event sooner, please say so under 'Any other info'.   If you have offered to help organise or host the event, we will liaise with you over dates, venue, and the programme.

Any Questions?

If you have any questions about proposing an event or Subject Centre events in general, please email esc@rhul.ac.uk .
