Biography

Candice originally studied English at Lancaster University, taking modules in both Literature and Language. She has a PGCE in FE and has been teaching English and Linguistics in both FE and HE institutions for many years, most recently at Blackpool and The Fylde College where she teaches English Language and Children's Literature on the degree programme. She completed a research project on students' perceptions and experiences of the English degree at the college in 2003. In 1998 she completed a PhD in Literacy Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, investigating children's concepts of punctuation. She is now a Research Associate in the Literacy Research Centre at Lancaster University. From 2004 to 2007 she worked on the Literacies for Learning in Further Education research project funded by ESRC Teaching and Learning Research Programme, and then worked on a project on homelessness and educational needs and provision, funded by the National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy. Most recently she has been working on the literacy practices involved in children's understanding of climate change. The role of HE in FE project officer for the English Subject Centre is a third job which should complement the other two!
